Dearest “Sweet”

Well Honey I still haven’t any address so mail could reach me. Therefore its best that you not write. Isn’t that a good excuse, Honey?

Say Lottie, if you have enough money there to go to Wisconsin I think you had better go up there. I’ll tell you why.

We are now at the navy base in Pearl Harbor awaiting transportation to States. When I hit the States I will be sent to Minneapolis, Min. for discharge. I could of had Chicago but its farther away. Minneapolis is where I enlisted. I knew there was no chance of being sent to N.C. because I didn’t live there or enlist there and also as you know I have your address in my record book as Wisconsin.

I’ll leave it all up to you Lottie if you want to go. If you were in Wis., when I get in Minneapolis I could call up and have you come up there. But as I said its up to you.

This 3d Fleet is supposed to leave out here the 9th and be in California the 15th for the navy Day program. I might get a ship before, it just depends.

Tell everyone hello for me, that’s about all I can think of.

Love – Kisses
Hank

P.S. As I said before its up to you if you want to stay in Kinston, its optional with me.

You should have enough money.
H.S.

Henry was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on October 22, 1945, at Minneapolis, Minnesota. He returned to Readstown, and there he and Lottie worked together in and later owned the funeral home founded by Oscar Anderson. Henry died on June 22, 1996; Lottie died on August 13, 2001. They were married a total of 52 years.
